North Country National Scenic Trail

A national scenic trail, minutes from your cabin.

What is North Country National Scenic Trail?

The North Country National Scenic Trail stretches over 4,600 miles from Vermont to North Dakota, and a section of it runs right through Wayne National Forest near our cabins. The New Straitsville trailhead on Plummer Hill Road puts you on the trail in minutes.

This part of the trail follows rolling wooded hills across the unglaciated Appalachian Plateau, passing through hardwood forests, stream crossings, and quiet ridgelines. The route connects to the Buckeye Trail and the Monday Creek trail system, giving you access to roughly 75 miles of hiking without driving anywhere.

The trail ranges from easy woodland stretches to longer, more challenging sections with elevation changes. You can do a short morning walk or plan a full-day hike deep into the forest. Dispersed camping is available along the route for anyone looking to spend a night under the trees.

Tips for visiting North Country National Scenic Trail

  • 1 The trailhead is on Plummer Hill Road in New Straitsville, just minutes from the cabins.
  • 2 Download trail maps before you go. Cell service is spotty in the forest.
  • 3 Water in Wayne National Forest is not safe to drink or filter due to the area's mining history. Bring your own.
  • 4 The trail connects to the Buckeye Trail and the Monday Creek system for longer loops.
